A request for your phones!

This post is a little different from most (but not all) of the others on Stoney Moss. I’m writing to reach out to you to help me make a difference in someone’s life. No, I’m not asking for money. I’m not even asking for your time. I’m just asking you to get rid of some old “junk.”

We’ve all got them… old cell phones sitting in the bottom of drawers somewhere, collecting dust. Well, you may not know this, but those old cell phones can make a world of difference for survivors of sexual assault or domestic violence.

I’ve recently learned that the office of Sexual Assault Services and Crime Victim Assistance at Rutgers University collects old phones to be used in providing programming and support for survivors of all forms of interpersonal violence for members of the university community. And I want to do my part to help.

That said, I’m asking all my friends in real life and in the blogosphere to help me out by giving me your old cell phones! Don’t let them sit in a drawer and collect dust. Chargers and holders aren’t necessary… just the phones themselves. You can simply give the phones to me next time you see me- or if we live 3,000 miles away, or have never even met in person, you can mail them to me, and I will make sure they get to where they need to be. Just send me an email if you are interested, and I will send you my address.

We all know that college (and college campuses) can be a wonderful experience… a great time/place for exploration, spreading your wings, and experiencing life on your own. With a simple donation of your old phone, you can help keep the college experience safe, positive and affirming for dozens (if not hundreds) of students, and help the university community provide a valuable resource to faculty, students and staff in need.

Please email me and let me know if you’re able to donate!

I’ve given away phones to a program like this in my area. Glad to see you’re doing your part in your area. Good luck.
