I hate Zombies

Some of you might remember that I have an irrational fear of zombies. Just yesterday, Jon and I were musing about whether it would be better to be chased by a zombie, mummy, or skeleton. I picked skeletons (because they don’t run after you with their hands outstretched)- he picked mummys. Zombies, it seems, just have a bad rap.

But, I pushed aside my fear of zombies to watch my friend Harold’s newest internet film, The Outbreak. The cool thing about The Outbreak is that it is a choose-your-own adventure film; just like the old books I used to read as a girl. At key moments in the film, you are prompted to direct Harold’s character about what do next. Depending on your choices, the zombies either get them…or not(?). Although I wouldn’t know if they lived…sorry Harold, I kept killing you guys off! I’d say the film (at least the versions I watched) were about an “R” rating (its pretty gory)—and of course, there are those zombies. Watch at your own risk…but if you want to try out a new type of film, exploring how the internet is continually changing our entertainment, check it out. Be patient with the buffering– it will work it’s way through the story line.

    Hey Kate

Glad you were able to swallow your fear and try to help us escape the zombies… yeah, there IS a way to make at least one of us survive (?), but you have to make the right choices. I checked the film today and it’s not having as many buffering problems as it did yesterday. Hopefully they’ve got the bandwidth issues fixed.

The “Choose Your Own Adventure” format is a hoot, huh? It was kind of wierd when we were filming it; we had to remember which story “branch” we were on while filming. Anyway, hope people like it!

Zombies and mummies fascinate me. It’s interesting how often zombies figure in pop culture and art. I just read a great story by Kelly Link called ‘The Hortlak.’ She has her zombies spouting off non sequiturs and shopping in convenience stores.

    I’ll check out the video.
