I’m kind of snobby about walking in the woods. Generally I don’t like going to Forest Park* (too many people, too much English ivy, not that interesting, no views of Cascade peaks).
But yesterday it was just right. Mark & I were later taking Sport out because transplanting the oak fledgling (more on that in another post) meant a hydrangea also had to be moved. By the time we were ready to go it would take too long to get to 1000 Acres. So Forest Park is where we went.
We took Wild Cherry Trail off Lief Erickson Drive and was rewarded by wildflowers & fungi, enough elevation to give our hearts a workout, and a happy dog. We even heard some young birds making a racket and saw the nest, although we could not see into it from our vantage.
*Ar 5,000 acres, 70+ miles of trails, Forest Park is the nation’s largest forested natural area within city limits.
