walking in the wet northwest

I got Sport out on quite a few walks this weekend, although none of them were particularly sunny and dry. We got soaked Friday late afternoon at Tryon Creek and that rain meant that 1000 Acres was pretty muddy Saturday. Yet even with that, the parking lot was full late morning when we got there. It seems everybody and their dogs were happy to get out and about — it wasn’t raining. A boon was a new path mowed through the fields southeast of The Confluence Bird Blind. (It’s always a pleasure to see this work of a renowned artist (Maya Lin.) It was put in just the week before and meanders for extra time & exercise in the park. (I ran into the Forest Service person who was checking/mapping what the mower had come up with.) Bigger bonus? I saw a pileated woodpecker in a tree copse. Sport’s bonus was playing with a bunch of nice dogs and getting out and about.
