Startling, too, how large they are. He was only 8-10 feet away from me. The dim light kept me from getting a better photo. And my nerves. I didn’t want to interrupt the dinner search.
I think it’s a gorgeous photograph. Wish I had such things living in my neighborhood. I see one once in a while at a distance but never close up like that.

I was very lucky, Michelle, in lots of ways: close by, right time/right place. The great blue heron is Portland’s “bird.”
