From Wind Mountain looking west

Last Sunday’s hike was a short one. Steep, but short and with a perfect temperature-to-breeze ratio. Probably should have added another hike onto the day, but it was nice to get home early, and enjoy the deck.

Wind Mountain is a sacred Native American vision quest area. It is still in use today, and not hard to know why.

It is not saxifrage, but what is it?

I’ve sent these photos on to someone who I hope will be able to identify the flowers, ones new to me. No matter when or where I hike, there is always something new to see or experience. Always.

And it is not pipsissewa, either. Hmmm.

Later today hubby and I head south to the North Umpqua River and Steamboat Inn for our annual long weekend trip. It should be warmer and clear. We’re looking forward to seeing Lee and Maggie on Steamboat Creek at the Fish Watch station, and we’re taking our bikes along this time.

Frida is doing pretty well and my hiking buddy’s son will house sit and look after her and Joey, along with another neighbor who will check in. I hope she does okay while I am gone. It’s a worry. But I’ll have to trust the universe.

May we all trust the universe and travel safely, no matter our destination.

  1. Gorgeous, gorgeous photos. I am envious.

  2. :-) Lovely. But really the north Umpqua is lovelier, even if it’s less photogenic! Have a grand expedition. xo
