I Started This One Hobby Rewriting Stories
Everyone does it, the white lie bartered
to save someone else’s honor, the bald-face lie,
calling not to a hornet, lively wasp, but a baby-
face so beguiling as impossible to disbelieve.
Which stories to start with? The one where I say but
I love him? Or when I promise to love myself,
to watch guard the whole night through? Self-preservation
and grab a too small life vest. Or pat someone’s
back, there, there, I love you too?
