What I love about gardening is that it cannot be virtual. I have to get out there and get my hands dirty.

Gardening becomes relaxing and meditative not because it isn’t back breakingly hard work, but because it returns us to a freer mental and emotional state. It is therapy for the heart.

After this morning’s Doggy Dash, I’m heading out in my yard to get dirty. (It helps that it’s a stunningly beautiful day in Portland today.) Writing will wait.

I’m excited! Not only because good online poetry friends have found a place in it, not only because I have work in it, not just because good online poetry friends created it, not just because I can get a copy of it to send to my mother, but because one of my IRL poetry friends, Liz Flint-Somerville, is in it.

Liz and I, until recently, were in a poetry group that met quite often. In Portland. I had no idea she submitted. And we are on facing pages! How about that! Real life and online life working all together!! (How cool is that?!)
